Addressing global climate change is a major challenge across the world. Local, regional, and national solutions all recognize renewable energy resources as a primary and cost-effective method to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The County, as a major electricity user with facilities spread across a wide area, is a natural testing ground for solar energy systems. As a leader in the support of new technologies, the County can pilot new technologies while being fiscally responsible and reducing electricity costs.
The County is considering several options in addition to solar power for generating renewable energy. Future sustainability efforts may see pilot projects for wind and geothermal power, as well as solar water heating projects.
